Elliot Road goes from rural two-lane to six-lane arterial
Mesa is set to award a $17.1 million contract to rebuild Elliot Road between the East Maricopa Floodway and Ellsworth Road, the northern edge of the Eastmark corridor.
Key facts:
- Staff recommends awarding the design-bid-build contract to HEI Civil at $17,143,737.55, plus a change order allowance.
- The corridor goes from a two-way, two-lane rural roadway to a six-lane major arterial with raised medians, curb and gutter, sidewalk, roadside retention basins, traffic signals, street lighting, and median landscaping.
- A storm drain pipe runs from Hawes Road to an outfall into the East Maricopa Floodway.
- The item sits in District 6 and lands on the August 31 City Council agenda.
The timing matters because the land on either side of that road is changing at the same time. Hawes Crossing Village 7, 103 acres at the southeast corner of Hawes and Elliot, goes to a Planning and Zoning public hearing Wednesday to convert employment-center and urban-center land to housing. The storm drain alignment in the road contract starts at that same Hawes Road corner.
